George Clooney Lake Como Home $40 Million

George Clooney Lake Como Home $40 Million - The lake-side mansion, which was once owned by the Heinz family, has reportedly become the subject of a bidding war between David and Victoria Beckham and a Russian vodka billionaire.

Clooney bought the opulent villa in 2001 for a mere 7 million euros. He now hopes to move to a quieter location with his Italian girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis.

Surrounded by topiary and red geraniums, the house offers its owners great privacy, a large drawcard for international celebrities.

Although the price of the 18th century building is high, local estate agents said properties like it rarely come on the market, the Independent reports.

Clooney and Canalis, who is a is a presenter on Italian television, decided to leave Lake Como because they had been hounded by autograph-hunters. The problem became so large that last year Mayor Pozzi introduced local laws forbidding anyone to gather in a group of more than three people in sight of the actor’s home – or face a 19 euro fine.

The last news (local news in Italian on l’Arena.it) say that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie apparently just bought an ancient Villa in Valpolicella (famous for its wines, the italian equivalent of Napa Valley), near Verona and Lake Garda, not far from George Clooney’s Lake Como house. The beautiful $40-million Villa Saibante-Monga, 2.000 sq. meters, 15 rooms, Palladio style, 450 sq.meters living room and 8 bathrooms need some restoring .
