2012 Miss America winner - Tonight was Miss America 2012, and Miss Oklahoma Betty Thompson was America's Choice early in the show when the 53 contestants were narrowed down to 15 on ABC channel 5 in OKC. She continued throughout the show she was obviously one of the favorites.
She made it to the top 12 (which ended up being 13 with a shocking save). Then, she was chosen as one of the 10 to participate in the talent competition. Ultimately, Miss Oklahoma Betty Thompson was chosen as one of the five finalists to answer a question. Her question was about obesity and government regulation. She felt that eating habits are up the parents to teach.
Ultimately, it came down to Miss Oklahoma and Miss Wisconsin. Many Oklahoma City viewers were certain that Betty Thompson would take the crown. However, in the end, Miss Wisconsin Laura Kaeppeler was the Miss America 2012 winner leaving Miss Oklahoma as the first runner up, and people throughout the state were incredibly proud of her.
